I received great news from the Trace Adkins camp a couple of days ago, but when I really started reading it, I actually got mad. Here’s the release with the important parts in bold:

TRACE ADKINS PROVES THAT “LADIES LOVE COUNTRY BOYS”
Adkins’ Latest Single Hits Top of the Charts

Nashville, TN – February 26, 2007…Country music sensation, Trace Adkins has gone #1…again! This week, Adkins scores another chart-topping song with “Ladies Love Country Boys,” written by Jamey Johnson, George Teren, and Rivers Rutherford. Additionally, the song’s video has dominated the #1 position on GAC for seven weeks and recently hit the #1 spot on CMT’s video countdown. “Ladies Love Country Boys” is from Adkins’ Dangerous Man CD that also made its debut at #1 on the charts upon its release in August 2006.

“Ladies Love Country Boys” became an instant hit for Adkins when it made its debut among Country’s Top 40 songs in early September. It continues his ten-year chart success, marking Adkins’ 20th consecutive single to land in the Top 25.
You’ve GOT to be kidding, right? The song was released to radio FIVE MONTH’S AGO? Nope. I’m not kidding, and neither are they. “Ladies Love Country Boys” was released a full five months ago – and just now climbed to the top of the charts.

Lookit, I’m happy for Jamey, Rivers, and George who are obviously making bank on the overly long radio play, but that’s just rediculous. Radio, and specifically those who program radio, need to pull their heads out of their butts and realize that people really don’t want to live with a song for that long. And if they do, they certainly don’t want it to continue to increase in plays. After five months of anything, the majority of people are ready for something new.

And everyone wonders why radio ratings, and by extension, cd sales are in decline? There’s your answer.
