Nashville can be a real struggle. You can have great mountain tops, and great valleys - and they can all happen in one day. This video is but a part of the Emily West story - but it’s brilliantly put together and shows who Emily really is - which is an absolute joy to watch.

Now, I had come across Emily a long long time ago - and who knows why I didn’t have her on site till now, just the way things work sometimes. But I was surfing around last night and came back across her myspace and I read one of her blogs, which, I hope she doesn’t mind, I’m posting here for your enjoyment (*watch that video first!!):

After two long days of hydrating myself, and resting up after the CMT awards, on Monday, my pontiac still sits lonely over at my friend’s house, but I am, now, ready to tell you how my first experience with walking the ‘purple carpet’ was for me….being it was my first time EVER. (Being a ’star’)….that makes me laugh, just saying it.

Star: HA!

All I have to say, is that no one prepares you for the flashing lights, people screaming your name, saying: ‘Hey, Emily, look here!’ Nobody really sits you down for the talk about how your whole world will be changing. The simplicity of apartment living, working hard on a record you hope to be out, before you reach 30 years old, is now drastically changing into playing fairs, stuffing corn dogs in your face, and catching your flight back home to be on THE GRAND OL OPRY! As you book your writing appointments on the two avenues that will depend if your record will either be good or suck. (16th Ave. S + 17th ave. N=Music Row)

After 4 years of developing, waiting, holding my breath, my record that I am so proud of is finally getting ready to be promoted.…which means, you gotta take that first step…….on that ‘purple carpet’.

I did. Step and stood there. I don’t know why I was so scared. Anybody that knows me, knows, that I never freeze up. But. I did. I wasn’t me. And the Gossip Journalist def. didn’t know it was me either because I was under the name of ‘Sarah Buxton’ (PS: Awesome singer songwriter, I adore her, in fact we are friends)….but this was funny to me, just when I started feeling all “maybe I AM somebody’….That put me right back down to apartment living again. And my head was back in the game of things that night with funny thoughts of me tripping on the carpet. I felt a whole lot better after I did that. And then, that’s when the night got good.

FYI:..I was SO on the ‘DON’t List.’ too.

In MY mind, I am a full on, gorgeous, bright, shiny, glittery, beautiful ‘DO’
so you, mr. joan rivers can take all of your ‘don’ts’ and shove em. Besides, there’s a new style in town. It’s this: the new Don’t is the new DO’

Sarah…Let’s go get drinks and see if they can tell us apart.

Oh, the life of an ‘up and coming’ is funny.

Love,

Em West

I placed the 4 years of waiting in bold myself - because, if you watched the video, you know something the others don’t.

My friends Lady Antebellum started in mid 2006, was signed to Capitol in 2007, have a song on the radio and release out already. Emily, on the other hand…

This town is difficult. It’s a long, long road sometimes. And even when you think you’re there, turns out, you may be no where close. But Emily offers a pretty good example of what you must do - which is, in your public profile, keep your head up. She even has her next event listed as the Grammy’s - Oct 8th, 2009. Now that’s cool.
