HotChelleRae
Written by Paul on July 11, 2008 – 4:20 pmWhen your pedigree comes from iconic last names in the industry like Follesse, Overstreet, and Keaggy - and you’re currently recording a new cd for famed former Chairman/C.E.O. of Sony Music Group Don Ienner, you MUST be making some great music right? Right.
The truth is, with the success of fathers Keith, Paul, and Phil respectively, one might think that the Nashville based HotChelleRae would in fact be a standout country band. Wrong.

HotChelleRae ROCK! And not in your typical, “we’re going to start a band and play” kind-of way. More in a “Guns-N-Roses were 14 years ago and we’re going to kick it up a couple notches”. Not to compare HotChelleRae to GNR’s music, they aren’t the same - it’s the attitude. You only have to listen to the confidence in the vocals to hear how the attitude is ‘rock star’ all the way. These guys are set to hit HUGE - and on a national level.
The music is good old fashion rock-n-roll with almost a dance style backbeat. Maybe even disco in ways - but the two songs on their myspace are more anthems than something to be danced to. Confused you yet? Yeah, that’s because it’s kind-of hard to classify this type of rock-n-roll. There’s a TON of influences you can hear in the music, but the bottom line always comes back to one thing - these guys ROCK!
Fortunately, if you want to hear them live they’re going to be playing a show at 12th & Porter July 12th at 9pm with some other Nashville rock stars Luna Halo - who fuse their own brand of pop and rock together to create some VERY catchy music.
There are supposed to be some other special surprises in store for you at the show as well. You don’t want to miss this show.

JagStar - Pressure
Written by Paul on June 23, 2008 – 2:49 pmThis is the newest, latest, and greatest video from Nashville favorites JagStar - shot and directed by our friend Glenn Sweitzer
Glenn was going down the MySpace rabbit trail and happened across them while they were still living and playing in Knoxville. He liked their sound so he placed them on his player, which is where I first heard them and fell in love with their sound. It wasn’t long after they moved to Nashville and picked up where they left off - having their music all over MTV and getting critics everywhere to love their style as well. The producer behind the scenes is Travis Wyrick (P.O.D, Pillar, 10 Years, Disciple) who obviously knows the right touches - because this is an excellent sounding recording - and a great song that’s fun to listen to.

Chris Burke

If major labels like Atlantic are going to start looking beyond the country market and start expanding their artists roster to include more diverse music, they could do no better than to consider Chris Burke.

Chris has vocals that could take the top prize on American Idol - easily. His music leans towards a funky, soul, R&B vibe with jazz thrown in for good measure. If I had to make a comparison, I’d say Babyface meets Nora Jones. A great combo that only truly talented vocalist like Chris can pull off effectively. Listen to his song “Satisfied” and you’ll know what I’m talking about. It’s excellent.
It’s my belief that Chris could make a huge impact on pop/ac radio and literally sell millions of albums in the process. Major labels should be looking at Chris in a serious way.
He is set to release his debut cd on his own and is currently looking for management and a great publisher who can help him move up the ladder. Anyone who gets on board this early in his career will have won the lottery - it’s rare that a talent like Chris comes often, much less out of Nashville.

Kelsey Skaggs

Kelsey Skaggs is awesome! I first met Kelsey a couple of weeks ago when I listened to her hit song, “Facebook Admirer“. That song is such a hit on so many levels it’s really hard to describe. For this day and age, it’s literally the perfect pop song.

This evening Kelsey came to Nashville to perform in the 60th annual Toys for Tots campaign held at Opry Mills Mall - let me tell you a little of what happened.
First Kelsey played an hour set. Then, she was asked to come back and play another set. As people streamed around the mall - estimated crowd of 80,000 - Kelsey stood on stage, guitar in hand, and played song after song. More photos were taken, more cd’s sold (and the proceeds donated), and more autographs were signed by Kelsey than anyone else - that’s not surprising really given that Kelsey is not only a rising pop/christian star, she’s also a super talent.
Her songs - funny, cheeky, sometimes downright silly, have a way of sticking in your head. Try it yourself - listen a couple of times to “Pick Up a Book“, one of the songs she has on her Myspace, and then tell me you don’t go around singing that song. It’s impossible not to! (and you may not entirely even like the song, but still you gotta admit, you’re singing it!)
On the Christian side of her songwriting is where Kelsey gets serious with songs like “The Cross“, a song that really lays it on the line about Christ giving His all for us and us not having the right words to say ‘thank you’ - and “Gardener’s Gloves“, a song about wanting nothing more than to be used for His service.
But it’s “Facebook Admirer” where Kelsey really shines - both as a writer and a singer. That song is simply perfect in every way - even in raw, unproduced form - it’s a hit.

Kelci Paige

(ed. note: This is part of an ongoing series introducing the artists that will be performing for the Supercell of Giving Benefit Concert to help those affected by the recent tornadoes. Kelci is spunky and we’re excited to have her perform.)

Wow! Talk about a lot of living in 16 years! Kelci Paige has done her share and then some! She not only records hit songs - she writes, acts and models when time allows.

In many ways, the Pop music world is probably a more difficult to maneuver than the Country music world. There are literally millions of young artists, raised on Radio Disney, Hannah Montana, and High School Musical, all wanting their shot to ‘be’ one of those artist. After all, TV makes it look so easy! But as everyone working in the real world will tell you, rarely if ever is anything so easy. That’s one reason to really be impressed with Kelci.
Kelci’s resume includes being a a finalist on PAX-TVs America’s Most Talented Kids, she won Radio Disney’s Vocal Talent Search two years in a row, has been seen performing at Six Flags Over Texas in the Johnnie High Country Music Revue with LeAnn Rimes, in the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving half-time show, and was even featured on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno!
In short, Kelci has worked HARD to get where she is today - and more, where she’s going in the future. What she’s accomplished is nothing short of amazing considering. Oh, what has she really accomplished? Get this - 781 THOUSAND views and 1 MILLION 300 THOUSAND plays on MySpace! In other words, Kelci, through hard work, sheer talent and determination, has risen above the noise and found herself on an ever growing heap of REAL fans. You’re about to see and hear why…
