Stormy Montana Kindly Shares Her Stage With Bucky Convington

By

KP’s Music Rodeo in Troy, TN is playing host to NashvilleHype! artist and all around amazing talent Stormy Montana Feb. 26th, 2011, starting at 6 pm (oh, and that other guy Bucky Covington will be there performing also).

It’s been a little while since we’ve had Stormy on site, and I know Stormy, just cause you don’t hear about her for a little while doesn’t mean she’s not got something going on!  She’s everywhere and doing everything.  So I asked her a few questions to get an update.

What have you been up to since we last had you on site?

For now, I’m still playing locally a lot. I’ve dabbled in writing. I have so many good friends who are great songwriters that have offered to write with me. I’ve decided I’m not so good at it, at least not right now. I am sort of song searching for a next project.

Any moment in the past year stand out?

It’s kind of hard to even think of what all I’ve been lucky enough to do this year. I think the most fun thing I did was working on my videos. I probably got the most attention from the Country Weekly feature.

Who are some of the people you’ve worked with?

Marcel shot 2 videos for me which was lots of fun. They were from 2 of the songs off my ‘Someone Like Me’ cd – “Weary Angel” (Kris Bergsnes) and “Sing This City Home” (James Slater).  Gary Gentry (“The Ride”) and I wrote 4 or 5 songs together and I got to write one song with my good friend Jim Moose Brown ( “It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere”).  I sang last weekend with Cody McCarver (Confederate Railroad) and am opening for Bucky Covington soon.

On top of all that I was in Nashville demoing a few songs with producer Dave Brainard (Jerrod Neiman‘s producer on “Lover, Lover”), I did a show for St Jude’s at Nashville attorney Jon Peeler‘s birthday party (which was great not only because of the guest of honor, but because of who else I was able to rub shoulders with – namely Ray Scott, producer Buddy Cannon, and several members of the Titans football team!), and I had the opportunity to be part of a TV pilot being developed by Big Vinny of Trailer Choir in his home town of Linden, TN.  Whew!  But, one of the things I will never forget was that I got to sing like 8 words (from my front row table) with my favorite artist- Bekka Bramlett.  I about peed my pants when she stuck that mic in my face :)

What was your best show?

A private show that was scheduled to last about 2 hours…  started at 10PM, still playing at daylight but, you know, what happens in Fulton, stays in Fulton :)

Any new instruments?

I have a very shiney new black Elite guitar – Les Paul style – so cool! The owner, Jeff Dall sent it to me earlier this year.

What’s your favorite instrument?

My Taylor 412CE and poor old Earl, my FG75 Nippon Gakki Yamaha red label.  I love my Elite but, haven’t gotten real comfortable with it just yet.

What’s your take on how the industry is performing?

Apparently, I don’t know how the industry is performing – it isn’t performing to dang well for me.  I, on the other hand, am having a blast just doing what I’ve set out to do… guess the industry will just have to catch up to me, I’m sure not having much luck chasing it.

Have a favorite artist? someone who knocks your socks off?

Bekka Bramlet is my idol and Jason Aldean, he doesn’t even have to sing- I’ll just look at him.

Any regrets so far?

Yep… I had an opportunity to write with Bridgett Tatum and I so love her work.  We had to cancel and I lost the contact info I had on her. We might not have gotten anything down anyway but, I sure would have liked to have met her.

What Charities are you working with or supporting?

St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, Children’s Miracle Network, Several Veteran’s organizations, and the Keep
Mom From Killing Stormy Foundation
– which is pretty much full time now

What’s next for you?

A long hot summer and a big bowl of ice cream!

Anything else you want to plug, talk about or mention?

I’m planning a string of shows stretching from North Carolina to Rhode Island in late spring.
