CMA Music Festival: Interview with Amber Hayes

By
Nashville_country_music_blog_NashvilleHype!

What more can I say about Oklahoma native and up-and-coming country artist, Amber Hayes, than I just LOVE this artist and I’m certain that you will, too, once you get to know her right here on NashvilleHype! Amber is a new artist signed to FUNL Music.  She is currently touring the country with her fellow label mate, Ty Herndon, in support of her new single released to radio “Wait“.  You can see her video for “Wait” on GACtv.com right now where it’s currently ranked #16 in the Top Picks section and at yallwire.com.

Not only is Amber incredibly talented, but she is extremely warm, humble and very genuine! THIS is an artist that you want to get behind and please do! Amber is a new artist to me, too, and I had the pleasure of meeting her for the first time during CMA Music Festival.  I think we interviewed for 10 minutes and then just talked for another 30 minutes.  I can’t say enough good things about her and just want our readers to hear all about Amber!

Wait“, her new single, is a fun, uptempo song that is both radio-friendly and has a more traditional country sound.  She’s got a sound that is sure to please both fans of today’s country music and traditionalists alike, which is not an easy thing to accomplish, but she does it with a natural ease.  Amber’s voice is strong, a little gritty and just beautiful!

“Always…Patsy Cline”

By
Nashville_country_music_blog_NashvilleHype!

First, let me just get this off of my chest…Mandy Barnett has GOT to be one of the best vocalists out there! Seriously…the control and sheer power she has in her voice is simply incredible.  Her stage presence is undeniable.  I saw her perform just last weekend during the CMA Music Festival and when she takes the stage, the room just falls quiet to take in every note she sings.  I witnessed it.  THAT’s how much command she has of that stage! I would absolutely LOVE to hear her original stuff because I’m quite sure she knocks her originals right out of the park, as well! Ok, now I feel much better getting that off my chest because I think she’s just awesome and sure deserves a record deal of her own.

I was very fortunate to be offered the opportunity to see the opening night of “Always…Patsy Cline” at the Ryman Auditorium tonight.  I have never seen the show before, so this was a real treat for me.  Tonight begins the 6 week run of the show there, which takes place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.  Do yourself a favor and get out there to see this show!

This is the 6th season for this production and Mandy has played the role of Patsy Cline each time.   She plays this role with such ease and captures the character of Patsy Cline flawlessly.  At least, from everything I’ve ever seen of the musical icon.  She was just a bit before my time! Now, my momma on the other hand, who I took with me to see this show, remembers Patsy Cline quite well.  She was brought to tears many times during the show tonight and adored every minute of the performance.  She stated many times how it “took her back” and brought back so many fond memories.  THAT’s just how realistically she captures Patsy Cline.

Fan Hater Vince Gill Releases New Material

By
VINCE GILL

I used to like Vince Gill.  I used to wonder where he was at and why he didn’t have any new music coming out.  Then, just the other day, he was a complete and unfettered JERK to one of my own close personal friends and a fan of his … and I couldn’t care less if him and his ‘career’ took a flying leap into a small pond!

“Music City on Stage”-Live at Fontanel

By
Nashville_country_music_blog_NashvilleHype!

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of being invited to see only the 2nd performance ever of Music City on Stage at Fontanel inside the newly remodeled barn made into a dinner theater located on this beautiful property with a country setting.  Those familiar with Fontanel Mansion will know it as the former home of beloved country star Barbara Mandrell and also where CMT’sGone Country” was filmed.

Not only was I treated to a spectacular show, but I enjoyed  a delicious dinner, as well.  All of this was a welcome treat after a day spent in the heat & humidity of what we know all too well as a typical summer day in Nashville.

I thoroughly enjoyed this show starring: Janelle Arthur, Chris Cline, Soren Wohlers, Jimmy Miller, Dana Romanello, Natasha Neely, and Renee Lopez.  It’s reminiscent of another show that I remember so fondly from my childhood.  For those Nashvillians and tourists visiting Nashville back a few years ago that remember Opryland and it’s musical “I Hear America Singing“, this will take you straight back to those days and some fond memories if you ever had the chance to visit there.  Oh, how I miss Opryland and my summers spent there, but that’s not what we’re discussing here! Anyway…

Nashville Record Labels Suck. Here’s Why.

By
stormy montana blue 2 125x125

Because for the past couple of years Stormy Montana has been a regular on this site (and I used to represent her professionally in PR) — in that time CD sales have continued to decline, the industry has shrank even further, people have lost their jobs, many businesses have closed completely, and the famed ‘Music Row’ (what a joke) has ‘For Rent’ signs everywhere … and Stormy, ON HER OWN without radio play, WITHOUT CMT, GAC, CMC, and all the rest, has sold over 10,000 – TEN THOUSAND – cd’s.

Bigtime Nashville Record Labels cut of that?  Zip. ZERO.  Nada.  None. Nothing.

When are they ever going to wake up?

Lydia Salnikova: Carving Her Own Path

By
country_music_blog_Nashville_Hype!

I remember the first time I met Lydia Salnikova.  It was about 6 years ago when she was part of the Grammy-nominated group, Bering StraitLydia was both keyboardist and one of two lead singers for the Russian country group.  I had been given backstage access by a friend who managed the group at that time so I could meet them for the first time.  I remember she was the very first one to greet me as I entered the backstage area–the petite young woman with a warm smile.  She showed me around the backstage and introduced me to the other members of the band just before they were to perform that night in Atlanta.

Since then, the members of Bering Strait have all gone their separate ways and pursuing their own careers as solo artists, studio musicians, producers and touring musicians.  It’s not surprising that each are having success on their own since all members were/are exceptionally talented and classically-trained musicians.

Lydia Salnikova is determined to carve her own path as a solo artist and let her voice be heard.  I would say her music has a sound all its own and she’s not trying to define her music as any one specific genre.  She’s just focused on creating beautiful music that moves her.  Great music shouldn’t have to be placed in any particular genre, it simply should be appreciated for what it is.  And, what she’s created, I like and I think you will, too!

Want to learn more about Lydia? Well, here you go! My exclusive interview is below.

What is your first experience performing live?
