5 Do’s and Don’t’s in Nashville
Written by Paul on March 13, 2008 – 3:36 amWhat’s written below isn’t rocket science, but you’d be surprised the emails we receive on a regular basis about these very topics. So we’re going to very generally and broadly tackle some of the biggest ‘problems’ we run across. Limited Time Offer: Sign up for the NashvilleHype! Newsletter and we’ll send you an extended version of these tips!
LISTEN TO OTHERS
Do: Listen to people when they tell you the GOOD and the BAD. Constructive criticism is one of the best things you will ever receive (and believe me, the real Pro’s in Nashville will only give you constructive criticism.)
Don’t: Listen to those who say you’re easily going to be the ‘next big thing’ - they’re liars. There’s no way in the world you’re easily going to be anything.
PAY FOR SERVICES
Do: Pay for recording, musicians, demo singers, and marketing.
Don’t: Pay to be published. Pay for someone to turn your poems into songs (scams! run people!)
SOUND LIKE SOMEONE ELSE
Do: Realize that there can be good money in sounding like someone else.
Don’t: Think that sounding like someone else is “really gonna help” your career.
IMAGE
Do: Get yourself a GREAT press kit. Photo shoots are so important, you just don’t even know.
Don’t: Let someone else define you before you define yourself! (You don’t even KNOW how important this is on so many levels!)
GHERM
Do: Make as many friends in the industry as you possibly can.
Don’t: Ever make them feel uncomfortable by asking them for something they wouldn’t even give to their family.

I am a singer, and I find this very informative for my future legendary career.

All newbies need to hear this!! I’d like to add to it by saying co-write, co-write, co-write!! 90% of the songs that get cut in Nashville are co-written….. Jo

Thank you for the advice and very well put
I have spent many dollars and very careful about listening to inexperienced companies
That claim to be able to make you a star.
I’ve seen that movie , and heard it all
walking the streets for 12 years up and down music row.
I have learned not to take my talent for granted and look at it as a blessing to shared.
I am no futher along then 12 years ago, except ,ive learned to be humble and expect nothing. I have been clasifide by radio program directors as signature vocalist, for what ever that means. i just enjoy recording and touching as many people as i can and no
soon i will touch the world.
Thanks Musically
